Refresh Carpets, Rugs, and Other Flooring

We know that the winter season is really rough on flooring. With winter snow and rain comes muddy boots, wet shoes and extra wear and tear from guests and visitors throughout the end of the year. Now is a great time to clean and refresh all of your flooring surfaces before the rush.

• • • Vacuum thoroughly and make sure you get every inch with at least two passes going different directions.
    • Treat stains or spots as needed. Using baking soda + vinegar and water will help lift most stains
    • Deodorize as a last step. Sprinkle baking soda over the whole carpet area and let sit for 15 minutes and then vacuum it up.

• For Hardwood Floors And Linoleum

• • Sweep all areas and then vacuum with suction only
  • Mop up with a semi-damp mop to get the rest of the dirt and grime
  • Spot remove stains or marks as needed
  • Polish and protect (wood floors specifically) with a wood polish or protective sealant to bring back shine and guard against winter moisture.

Organize Your Kitchen And Pantry Storage (before things get busy!)

Since you will be spending a large proportion of your time in your kitchen getting ready for and during the holidays, you will want to have everything that you will need at your fingertips. Take some time to really sort out what you actually need in your kitchen and toss the things that are worn, broken, or on their last legs. When you put everything back, take some time to really organize and put things in places that make sense and are easily reachable. That way you will be ready to tackle whatever happens this year!

Give Bathrooms a Fresh Start

Another key area to holiday hosting success, your bathrooms will also get a lot of mileage this year and are prime places for spreading germs. Make sure to give them a deep clean from top to bottom before your guests arrive.

• Scrub grout and reseal if necessary.
• Clean showerheads and faucets to remove mineral buildup.
• Wash or replace shower curtains and liners.
• Sanitize sink drains and wipe down baseboards and vents.
