Halloween is right around the corner and it helps to be prepared for the inevitable deluge of trick or treaters that will darken your doorstep. You want to make sure that your house is presentable and looking less like a haunted mansion. You also may want to survey your walkway to make sure that on the fateful night it is clear of debris, safe, and easily accessible for small children and families to traverse in the dark. So, we put together a list of things that you can do in order to make sure that the outside of your home is ready to be the coolest and safest house on the block.

Clean And Prep Sidewalks And Walkways For Safety

Even though Halloween is all about being spooky and scary, we need to concentrate on safety first. Take a look at your driveway, walkway, and sidewalk in front of your house. Make sure that there are no cracks or uneven chunks of concrete or rocks that may trip or slip up a visitor. Sweep up all parts of the pathway leading up to your front door and make sure to take care of any weeds or bushes that may be encroaching on the path.

Sweep Down Cobwebs And Other Debris

Now that we have the walkway taken care of, we can concentrate on the outside of your house. Take your trusty broom or other long handled sweeper and sweep down all the cobwebs and other debris around the outside of your house, especially around the front door. Make sure that the cobwebs are out of sight and won’t be in the way of any potential visitors.

Spray Outside Walls With Hose

Now, take your garden hose and spray down the outside of your home with a light to medium power spray. Make sure to get all of the places higher up that you couldn’t with your broom.

Wash Windows

Take the hose and give your windows a good rinsing to get the initial layer of dust and grime off of them. Then you will have to get out your ladder and carefully wash the windows with a little warm soapy water (2 tablespoons of dishwashing detergent per gallon of water) and wipe them down with a clean rag. You can then rinse again with the hose for a quick and easy way to get your windows sparkling.

Decorate!

With all of this cleaning, don’t forget to have fun! Get out your decorations and populate the walkway and front area of your house to make it look fun, spooky, and inviting to adventurous candy seekers. Just make sure that your walkway remains clear and safe.

In Conclusion

It’s such a fun time of year and this year will be no exception! Halloween for homeowners can seem like a bit of a chore, but it doesn’t have to be! It’s a good excuse to get your house looking great for the coming months and the candy is an excellent bonus.
