When spring cleaning, it is so easy to get swept up in cleaning other areas around the house like the garage/basement, bedrooms, and bathrooms that we tend to neglect the kitchen. As the most often used room in the house, the kitchen should definitely be a high priority when spring cleaning. Plus, cleaning the kitchen often can help reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses and pest infestations. Yikes! Better to be safe than sorry! Let’s dive into how to tackle your kitchen quickly and easily this year.

Top To Bottom

We always want to start high and finish low, especially when it comes to cleaning the kitchen. Start with your duster or dust rags and wipe down the tops of all of your kitchen cabinets, refrigerator, and high up appliances like range vents and mounted microwaves. Once you have wiped down the tall surfaces, then it is time to tackle the countertops.

Countertops

When it comes to getting the best and most clean countertops, it helps to have a handy cleaning solutions. We recommend a store bought all purpose cleaner, or if you want to go the natural route, you can add 1 or 2 tablespoons of white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide per cup of water to a spray bottle and use that. Start by wiping down all of the crumbs and foodstuffs off of the counters and onto the kitchen floor. Don’t worry, we will be sweeping that up at the end! Then spray the surface of your counter with a good amount of cleaner and wipe down with a fresh rag. Make sure to get all of the coffee and food stains out!

Appliances

Now it’s time to tackle the appliances. Start by wiping down the outside surfaces of your fridge, oven, dishwasher, and microwave with your cleaning solution and rag. Then it is time to clean the insides of each of those appliances. It helps to take the microwave tray out of the microwave and just pop that straight into the dishwasher to get cleaned with your next load. Then make sure to clear out all of the leftover food or expired condiments from your fridge. You may want to drag your trash can to the center of your kitchen so it is handy. Once your fridge is de-cluttered, then it is time to wipe down the inside and replace all of the un-expired items.

Floors

Once the appliances are clean inside and out, it is finally time for the last step, the floors! Make sure to thoroughly sweep up your floors all around the kitchen, then get down on your hands and knees and give the baseboards around your counter and appliances a good scrub down as that is the main area debris and stains will build up. Then lightly mop the kitchen floor with a regular mop or one of those quick mops you see in the kitchen section of big box stores.

Congratulations, your kitchen has been deep cleaned! Pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
